MOUNT WASHINGTON, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire rangers are warning about icy conditions on Mount Washington after two men were seriously injured in separate incidents over the weekend.
Officials say the long-sliding falls took place on Sunday in two separate locations.
A Vermont skier was on Hillman’s Highway when he lost control. Officials say he may have slid as much as 900 feet down the mountain, hitting chunks of rock and ice as he fell.
Officials say a Quebec skier lost control while descending from the summit. He was found in Tuckerman Ravine.
The victims were airlifted to area hospitals with injuries considered life-threatening. They weren’t immediately identified.
Ranger Frank Carus of the White Mountain Avalanche Center tells WMUR-TV that a lot of rocks are poking out through the snow.
