ELLSWORTH ( AP) — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office says a house fire that killed a 93-year-old man in Ellsworth happened when the man’s clothing caught fire on his stove.

The fire killed Roice Saunders, who lived in the house. Investigators say Saunders’ clothes caught fire while he was boiling water on a gas stove.

They say he was probably trying to reach a telephone to make a call for help when the flames overcame him. Investigators found Saunders’ body about six feet away from the stove in the living room.
