The U.S. Small Business Administration recognized three Mainers for their business acumen in the agency’s annual awards.

Ellen Thayer, owner of Love Rocks Me greeting card company in South Portland, has been selected to receive the SBA Home-Based Business of the Year Award for Maine and New England. The award is presented to a successful home-based business with at least a three-year track record, according to a Thursday release from the SBA.

Masahiko Miyake of Freeport, chef and owner of Miyake LLC in Portland, has been selected to receive the SBA Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year Award for Maine and New England. Miyake owns and operates two Japanese restaurants and a farm, and has been a finalist for James Beard Foundation culinary awards.

The agency also selected Getchell Bros. Inc. of Bangor to receive the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business Award for Maine and New England. The award is presented to a family-owned and operated business with a 15-year track record that has been passed on from at least one generation to another. Getchell Bros. produces and distributes ice products. It was founded in 1888.

On Wednesday, the SBA announced winners of its annual Small Business Person of the year, woman-owned business and veteran-owned business awards.

A reception recognizing the honorees will be held May 4 at the Augusta Civic Center.
