This winter, once again, the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference all-star basketball team featured a lot of familiar names.

Brunswick’s boys sprung one of the more memorable tournament upsets, knocking off top-ranked Greely before losing to eventual state champion Falmouth in the Class A South Final. The Dragons had two players, Caleb Cost and Thomas Hanson, named to the KVAC Class A South first-team. They were joined by Mt. Ararat standouts Alex LaFountain and Shyheim Ulrickson.

The KVAC Class A South All-Academic team included Brunswick’s Hanson, Owen Rudalevige and JD Souza and Mt. Ararat’s Harper Moutal.

Ulrickson was also named KVAC Class A South Player of the Year.

Brunswick’s Todd Hanson was named KVAC Class A South Coach of the Year.

Brunswick’s Thomas Hanson and Mt. Ararat’s Ulrickson both took part on the Class AA/A/B South team in the Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star Game. Ulrickson had 20 points in a 97-91 loss to the North. Brunswick’s Todd Hanson served as a coach.

Brunswick’s Owen Rudalevige and Mt. Ararat’s Harper Moutal both qualified for the boys’ All-State, All-Academic team.

Last, but not least, Mt. Ararat’s Ulrickson was a semifinalist for the Mr. Maine Basketball award, which was ultimately won by Hampden Academy’s Nick Gilpin. 

The KVAC Class A South girls’ all-star team featured Brunswick’s Madeline Suhr and Adrianna White, Morse’s Emma Harrington and Signe Ostergaard and Mt. Ararat’s Sara Lamb.

Brunswick’s Alicia Armstrong and Emily Black and Morse’s Emma Harrington and Isabelle Paulus qualified for the KVAC Class A South All-Academic team.

Brunswick’s Sam Farrell was named KVAC Class A South Coach of the Year.

Morse’s Emma Harrington qualified for the girls’ All-State, All-Academic team.
