BATH — James William Beck, 81, died March 24. He was born in Lewiston, Dec. 25, 1934, the only son of Gene and Scottie Beck. He grew up in Woolwich, and graduated in 1953 from Morse High School.

Beck enjoyed a long and successful career that began at Maine National Bank in Bath and continued for many years at Merrill Trust Company of Bangor.

He was an avid and accomplished sportsman, with a deep knowledge and true love of the Maine woods and waterways.

His perceptive insights and observations, infectious good humor and enthusiasm for storytelling touched many people.

Beck was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Barbara Wilson Beck; his in-laws, and many beloved friends.

He is survived by three children, Katherine Beck Whittemore, David Wilson Beck and Daniel Wight Beck; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Washington Street in Bath 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, followed by a reception at the Kennebec Tavern on the waterfront.

The family is grateful for the care Beck received from his physician, Christopher Meserve and Chaplain John Larssen and the staff at MidCoast Hospital and CHANS Hospice.
