ALNA — Midcoast Conservancy will host a wild apple pruning workshop April 11 from 2-4 p.m., with a rain date April 18, at Trout Brook Preserve in Alna. Liz Stanley, from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo Counties, coordinates home and school horticulture programs and will be offering this 2 hour workshop.
Learn how to renovate backyard or field apple trees to improve overall health and fruit production, enhance wildlife habitat, and their appearance in the landscape. We’ll cover the growth habits of apples, the types of cuts to open and shape them for maximum sunlight, different types of hand tools, and how to use them safely. Bring water, gloves, eye protection, hand saw, hand pruner, loppers, and/or pole pruner. For more information, contact Midcoast Conservancy at (207) 389-5150 or [email protected]

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
