FREEPORT

Patten Free Library in Bath is celebrating National Library Week April 10-16 with a number of events — all of which are free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m., the library hosts its third annual Open Mic Poetry Night. Drop in, sign in and read your favorite poem. This year’s featured poet is Helene McGlauflin, who will read from her new collection, “Teacher I Honor You: Poems Honoring Young People, Parents and Teachers.”

Peter Baldwin Panagore, author of the 2015 memoir “Heaven Is Beautiful: How Dying Taught Me that Death Is Just the Beginning,” will host a book talk on Wednesday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m., the week concludes with a free concert by Portland based Primo Cubano, a five-piece band playing traditional Cuban music. The library will close at its regular time of 5 p. m., then re-open at 6:30 p.m. to host this special community event. The concert is cosponsored by Friends of Patten Free Library, who provided financial support.
