SANFORD — Police say there appears to be no foul play involved in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in the Mousam River just south of the Emery Street Bridge this evening,

Police and  Sanford Fire Department paramedics  were called to the area of the bridge  around 6 p.m. after a passerby reported seeing a body in the water.

Sanford Police Detective Corporal Eric Small  identified the woman as Lorilie A. Payeur, 50, of Sanford.

Small said the woman’scause of death is undetermined, and that the incident   would be  referred  to  the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for further examination on Thursday.

“It doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” said Smal at the scene. “There are no obvious signs of foul play.”

He said police don’t know how long the woman had been in the water.

The investigation is ongoing.
