I oppose the use of the Freeport Community Library as a turn-around for Metro bus service. Our library is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown commercialism, and is a safe and comfortable place for residents of all ages to meet and retreat. It is one of a few parking lots designated by signage as a ”No-Idling Zone.” Buses repeatedly passing through, leaving a wake of noise and exhaust, negates the intent of that messaging.
Having the bus coming through the library lot at several regular intervals would negatively impact the safety, atmosphere, and security of this wonderful space. This also would be a subtle encroachment into a residential area.
I encourage project planners to consider keeping the buses from going beyond Mallett Drive, and design a route that has minimal impact on Freeport residents’ quality of life.
