Office hours
The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday. The office will be closed Monday, April 18, for Patriot’s Day.
Meetings
The Pownal Board of Selectmen meets on Mondays, April 18, May 2 and May 16. All meetings start at 7 p.m. at Mallett Hall.
A Planning Board public hearing on a proposed back-lot ordinance will be held
Wednesday, April 20, at 6 p.m., at Mallett Hall. A Planning Board meeting will be held that night at 7.
The Planning Board will hold ordinance review workshops on Wednesday, April 27, at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall.
Disposing of drugs
Casco Bay CAN (Create Awareness Now) and law enforcement representatives will present information geared toward seniors on how to track, lock and dispose of drugs properly on Thursday, April 28, at noon, at First Parish Church, 461 Elmwood Road, Pownal. Those who attend can bring any expired or unwanted drugs for law enforcement to dispose.
Nomination papers
deadline April 28
Nomination papers for one seat on the Board of Selectmen, one seat the Regional School Unit 5 board and one on the Cemetery Commission are now available. They must be returned to the town clerk’s office no later than 4:30 p.m., on April 28. Town elections are June 14, and the annual town meeting is scheduled for June 20.
Food pantry on Wednesdays
The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.
Men’s breakfast
First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a Men’s Breakfast the first Saturday of each month, at 7:30 a.m., at the church, open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.
Church services
Prayer, Praise and Worship, with the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre, is held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682 or Kim Drew, church secretary, at 837-2938.
North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m., led by the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre. Sunday School for children and adults begins at 10:30 a.m. St. Pierre’s hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon and Thursdays by appointment only at 688-4938. The First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9, worship service is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages is 11 a.m.-noon. Bible Study meets at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Choir has started and anyone wishing to join is welcome to come to rehearsals on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information, call the Rev.
