BIDDEFORD — The University of New England had little trouble sweeping a Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader from Gordon, winning the first game 12-4 in six innings and the second game 10-0 in five innings Friday.

In the opener, Amanda Vallante had three hits, three RBI and two runs for UNE (17-7, 8-4) against the Fighting Scots (6-19-1, 1-11). Kelly Murphy added three hits, an RBI and a run scored, and Meghan Bolano collected two hits, two RBI and two runs.

In the second game, Sydney Helmbrecht had two hits, two RBI and a run. Andrea Gosper added two hits and two runs, and Melissa Sprague and Sophia Burnham combined to toss a three-hitter for the Nor’easters.

COLBY 4, BOWDOIN 3: Paige Hartnett hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to help the Mules (7-11, 1-3 NESCAC) beat the Polar Bears (13-10-2, 3-4) at Waterville.

Bowdoin broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 10th on a double by Claire McCarthy that scored Jordan Gowdy.

Julia Geaumont of Bowdoin allowed four runs on five hits, striking out one in 91/3 innings.

Caroline Rice had three hits for Bowdoin, including a solo homer in the sixth.

BASEBALL

COLBY 14, BOWDOIN 3: Colby (6-14, 2-2 NESCAC) scored six runs in the sixth inning and five runs in the seventh to break open a close game and beat the Polar Bears (12-9, 2-5) at Waterville.

Colby led 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth before Matt Garcia hit a three-run homer. Garcia went 2 for 3 with three RBI and three runs.

Dan Csaplar and Zach Ellenthal each had three hits for the Mules. Ellenthal drove in three runs and scored twice, and Csaplar drove in two and scored once.

Nick Sadler and Brandon Lopez each had two hits for Bowdoin, and Bjorn Hansen hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth.

Brooks Parker picked up the win, allowing one run on six hits, striking out two in 52/3 innings.

ST. JOSEPH’S (VT.) 12, SMCC 0: Nicholas Burch pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Saints (29-9, 10-0 USCAA) over the Seawolves (11-16, 4-6) at South Portland.

Burch walked three and struck out nine. Shawn Murphy and Juan Espinosa collected the hits for the Seawolves.
