RICHMOND
The Richmond High School track team opened its season on Monday with a meet at Farmingdale, facing tough competition against Hall-Dale, St. Dominic’s Academy and Mountain Valley.
The Bobcat girls were paced by a first-place finish from Destiny Anair in the 800-meter run. She crossed the line in 2:51.57, edging Mountain Valley’s Marissa Crosby and Bobcat Olivia Winokurzew (3:04.54).
Anair and Winokurzew were 2-3 in the 1,600, with Anair finishing in 6:04.33 and Winokurzew in 6:36.19.
Also for the Richmond girls, Julie Plummer earned third in the 100 dash in 15.64.
Host Hall-Dale won the meet with 80 points, edging Mountain Valley (76). St. Dom’s was third with 44 points, while Richmond earned 22.
In the boys meet, Richmond’s Ben Young was the lone scorer for the Bobcats. He finished third in the high jump (5-0) and fourth in the shot put (27-04.50).
Mountain Valley easily won the boys competition with 126 points, with Hall- Dale (94), St. Dom’s (30) and Richmond (five) rounding out the field.
Richmond returns to Farmingdale on Tuesday for a meet.
