NORTH BERWICK — The Massabesic boys lacrosse team earned it’s first win in 24 games, defeating Noble 18-1 Tuesday afternoon.
Kevin Nguyen led the Mustangs with seven goals while Garrett Stubbs added four. Captain Ethan Ouellette also chipped in three on the day.
Massabesic coach Steve Gallo and his team felt relieved to put an end to the program’s losing streak.
“It’s a great feeling. This was our first win in 24 games … the kids were starved for success and took a huge leap of faith in believing in what we have here. It was good to finally get a win off and to cement it,” said Gallo.
Outside of the feeling of relief, the players also felt a great deal of excitement after the win.
“The kids were going crazy on the bus ride home, on social media … it was like we won states,” said Gallo. “We have a young team so to get this win was huge, it was great for the freshman and sophomores to experience this. It was a lot of fun to watch.”
With their first win, the Mustangs will use it as a confidence booster moving forward in the season.
“It’s a big bump in confidence,” said Gallo. “A win like this helps the kids take themselves a little bit more seriously, I have tried to be realistic with this team. Our goal is to be .500 and claim a playoff spot and to take it from there, so this win was a great start for us.”
