Ethan’s presence was legendary. His eyes were kind and mischievous, his heart gentle and loving, his laugh infectious, his hugs allen compassing and unparalleled. He was also hilarious, often sporting an ironic mustache, rebellious long hair, and almost exclusively black attire (“For the same reasons as Johnny Cash,” he would say). Possessed of an artist’s soul, insatiable curiosity about life, and an impeccable eye and ear, Ethan’s passion for photography led him to complete an Associate’s in Photography from Rockport College in 2004 and a decade-long career in the movie industry in Boston.
A proud third generation Eagle Scout, Ethan deeply loved his family and enjoyed being Favorite Uncle to Elias, Lucy, Tucker, Evelyn, Caroline, Amelia, Phoebe and Elik. His annual “Uncle Ethan (is the Easter Bunny) Egg Hunts” were always a high point. From early childhood, Ethan was thoughtful and wise beyond his years. When he spoke, we all truly wanted to listen. The world has lost a giant among men.
Services for Ethan will be held at First Lutheran Church, 132 Auburn Street in Portland, at 1:00p.m. on Saturday April 30th, followed by an informal Celebration of Life gathering at the Sea Dog Brewing Company in Topsham at 5:00p.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
