According to a press release issued Friday morning, Craig King has withdrawn his candidacy for the position of Superintendent of Schools in Cape Elizabeth and the School Board has turned its focus toward hiring an interim superintendent to serve during the 2016-2017 school year.
According to the board’s Chairwoman Elizabeth Scifres, Cape will begin the superintendent search process again next winter. She said, “it is not unusual for a school department to need more than one cycle of the search process to find a good fit. The School Board takes its charge of finding the right match for our district very seriously and is committed to hiring the best person it can to lead Cape Elizabeth Schools.”
King, who serves as Regional School Unit 10 superintendent and was scheduled to visit the Cape district Wednesday, was also a finalist for the Scarborough superintendent position, which was filled two weeks ago by Julie Kukenberger, schools superintendent in Haverhill, Mass. The other Cape superintendent finalist, Steven Bailey, who heads the Central Lincoln County School System, withdrew his name from consideration last week.
