The Trojans, who had 14 different players find the back of the net, were led by Charlie Katz and Thomas Levasseur with four goals each.
TA coach Ryan Hersey was happy to see a lot of players get a chance to play – and put the ball in the cage.
“We got a lot of kids in. I don’t know how many scorers, but I would say at least a dozen scorers, and that’s what we want to see in a game like this,” said Hersey.
The Trojans jumped out to an 18-3 lead at halftime – and Hersey was looking for his players to work on certain aspects of their game in the second half.
“(We talked about) good ball rotation, not being selfish, we talked about running plays, and for the most part, we were able to run plays and practice those and get ready for other teams,” said Hersey.
The Trojans, who would get three goals from Jon Camire, would utilize a spread offense late in the game, which allowed them to both work on that specific offensive set and run out the clock.
“When you get a team that you are really looking to spread out, that (offense) is effective. It’s also effective if you’ve been playing a lot of defense to get that down there and just get the ball around,” said Hersey. “We emphasize that we want kids to get touches, we don’t want to just go right off the bat because that’s when defense’s are in their best position. It just helps everybody get a touch … it helps spread the defense out and that’s what we are looking for on that.”
The Trojans would also get two goals apiece from John Giroux, Wyatt LeBlanc, Noah Edborg and Logan Picard. CJ Labreck, Greg Ruff, Tucker Weeks, Thomas Pike, Jaden Wells, Ethan Wiggan and Austin Meserve all added one goal in the win.
Hersey was happy with his team’s performance, but also believes the Trojans still haven’t reached their full potential.
“We are still developing. We have a lot of guys that are still young and still learning and we have a long way to go,” said Hersey. “The kids know that they have a long ways to go too, which is nice because they are hungry to get better and that’s what we are looking for.”
Thornton Academy (2-0) will visit Waynflete on Saturday. Marshwood, who was led by Henry Honkonen with two goals and Adam Driver with one goal, will visit Oxford Hills on Saturday.
