Regional School Unit 5 directors will conduct a special meeting Wednesday, May 4, in executive session to discuss the applicants for the position of school superintendent. The meeting at the RSU 5 Central Office begins at 6 p.m.

The school board seeks a successor to first-year Superintendent Ed McDonough, who made a surprise announcement on March 30 that he will resign for personal reasons, effective June 30. When a new superintendent is hired, he or she will be the fourth to serve RSU 5 in as many years.

Board Chairwoman Michelle Ritcheson of Durham said that applications for the position were due on Thursday, April 28.

“We are meeting to discuss the ones we have received and decide our next move in the process,” Ritcheson said.

McDonough, 60, who lives in Wells, succeeded William Michaud and Mike Lafortune, who served as interim superintendents for a year. He had been school superintendent in Portsmouth, N.H.
