PORTLAND
The Binghamton Mets (13- 10) scored two runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings in defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (8-18), 6-3, in an Eastern League contest shortened by rain after seven frames at Hadlock Field.
Portland led 2-0 before the Mets tied the game in the fifth inning. The Sea Dogs led 3-2 after an RBI single by Cole Sturgeon in the fifth.
But, the Mets answered with two runs in the sixth and another two in the seventh off of reliever Nik Turley to pull ahead for good.
Portland’s Ty Buttrey received a no decision but was solid over five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two. Mets starter Tyler Pill allowed three earned runs on seven hits in six innings, walking one and striking out four.
Jake Romanski finished 2- for-3 for the Sea Dogs, while Bryce Brentz went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored. Cole Sturgeon and Aneury Tavarez each notched an RBI apiece.
The teams are scheduled to meet this morning at 11 a.m. in the series finale.
