Rebecca Shepherd of Brunswick was honored by the Red Cross of Southern Maine with a Real Heroes award. Shepherd, who founded Wild Oats Bakery & Café in Brunswick in 1991, focuses on environmental and social responsibility and a desire to provide clean, all-natural and from-scratch products. Shepherd created an internship program that educates disenfranchised and at-risk students with basic social and culinary skills. At the Real Heroes Breakfast held April 28 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland, L.L. Bean was chosen to receive this year’s Real Heroes Corporate Partner Award. L.L. Bean has hosted more Red Cross blood drives than any other company in the state, and has collected more than 1,200 units of blood. Last year, L.L. Bean partnered with the Red Cross to build a team of 30 disaster responders who were trained through the Zero2Hero program on disaster response services and now comprises L.L. Bean’s Sheltering Team.

Hires, promotions, appointments

Norton Insurance Agency announced that Dolly Libby has joined the company as commercial lines account representative.

Benchmark Residential & Investment Real Estate has added eight new members to its team of real estate professionals: Doug Cook, Jon Howard, Shannon Miranda, Nicole Poirier, Amber Purty, Ezra Provost, Rich Robinov and Chris Schmidt.

Mark Leighton and Gary Bergeron have each been promoted to senior vice president, financial adviser in Morgan Stanley’s Portland office. 

Recognition

Jeremiah “Josh” S. Burns Jr., a financial adviser in the Morgan Stanley Portland office, has been named to The Financial Times’ Top 400 Financial Advisors for the fourth consecutive year.

Todd Doolan, a senior vice president, senior portfolio management director in the Morgan Stanley Portland office, has been named to Barron’s list of America’s Top 1,200 Advisors: 2016 State-by-State. It is the first time Doolan has attained the number one spot for the state of Maine, but the third consecutive time he was named to the list.

On the Move

Ellen Niewoehner of Portland has been promoted to senior relationship manager in commercial lending at TD Bank in Portland. Niewoehner joined TD Bank in 1997, and most recently served as a relationship manager in commercial lending. Niewoehner is a member of the Portland Rotary Club and is a board member and assistant treasurer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine.

Morgan Stanley announced that James Olson, an associate vice president and financial advisor, Lance Prichard, a senior investment management consultant and Glenn Parkinson, a senior portfolio manager and financial advisor in the firm’s office in Portland, have all attained Morgan Stanley’s Family Wealth Advisor designation. 

Toast of the Town

More than 200 people toasted to a great cause April 21 at Portland’s Ocean Gateway for the 5th annual Toast on the Coast, which netted $22,300 to support Easter Seals Maine. In a new twist for the annual event, guests voted for their favorite dish of the evening, which was given to The Winey Baker. Runners-up for best dish were the CVC Catering Group,  and MK Kitchen and the Brunswick Inn and Tavern, which tied for third.

Two families are now Habitat homeowners at the Hope Lane subdivision in Brunswick. Habitat for Humanity/Rivers Maine held a dedication ceremony for the Veterans and Faith Builds on April 23. Veteran Ben Leeman and his three children, at left, received a quilt presented by Habitat board member Bill Leibenguth. The Rev. Geoff Parker, of First Parish Church, enjoys the children’s reaction. In addition, Christina Colon and her two children received the keys to their new home.
