The South Portland Historical Society will host the 7th annual Bug Light Kite Festival on Saturday, May 21, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at Bug Light Park.
Members of the Noreasters Kite Club and Kites Over New England will be on hand to lend their expertise and offer activities, including a kite flying workshop, demonstrations of show kites, bol racing and a candy drop.
Kites will also be available for purchase in the historical society’s museum gift shop, along with a barbecue fundraiser. In addition, volunteers from the South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club will offer visitors a rare chance to see the inside of the lighthouse.
Then, on Wednesday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m., the historical society will hold its annual meeting at the Community Center. The event will include a lecture on local history. The event is free to historical society members and a $10 donation is requested from non-members. Call 767-7299 for more information.
