I hope you agree the past two days have been nothing short of stunning.  I know we’d all like the weather to continue through the weekend, but it’s not in the cards this time.  However, if you are expecting a washout, think again, most of the weekend will actually be dry and the bulk of the showers that fall will do so at night.

There are two weather systems affecting New England over the next three days.  The first brings some showers this afternoon and evening.  The best chance of the rain is after 5 p.m, but before 11 p.m.  Remember, showers generally move west to east so those of you in the western part Maine will see the showers begin and end earlier.

Saturday is a nice day overall. I expect a lot of sunshine and a great day to be outside. Take a run, play golf, watch the kids at their game or just do some gardening.  There is going to be a cold front moving through Saturday afternoon and evening along with another round of some showers.   The best chance of showers will be from about 6 p.m until 1 a.m on Sunday.

If there are leftover showers Sunday, they will end by 7 a.m and then it’s back to a blend of clouds and sunshine.  The big change Sunday is much cooler air.  After mid 60s of today and lower 70s tomorrow, it’s back to the 50s for Sunday.

If you’re going hiking, biking, or running…

Last weekend I did end up hiking part of the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire and got quite wet.  This weekend will see a period of showers Friday night and again overnight Saturday.  It will be dry and quite sunny tomorrow and Sunday.   Across the area a pop-up shower might occur  Sunday, especially in the mountains.

If you’re going beaching and boating…

New Hampshire Seacoast and Maine: Tides are high at about 6 a.m and a 7 p.m this weekend shifting toward 8 o’clock in the morning and evening late in the weekend.  Boaters need to be aware of a southerly flow of air Saturday shifting to the west on Sunday.  Winds will be quite gusty on Sunday from the west/southwest – as high as 30 miles per hour.

If you’re playing soccer, softball, baseball, or golf…

Saturday’s forecast: With overnight showers Friday the fields will likely be damp on Saturday morning.  Since it’s been so dry the past week the ground will absorb most of the water quite quickly.  Those fields with poor drainage could have some puddles early.  Golf courses should be in great shape after the showers and some warm weather.  Showers move into the area Saturday evening and overnight.

Sunday’s outlook: Any showers will end before dawn on Sunday.  You’ll notice it’s quite a bit cooler on Sunday and you might need a light jacket in the morning and evening.

If you’re gardening…

It’s still early to put warm weather crops into the ground.  Temperatures in the 30s are expected Monday and perhaps Tuesday morning.  Although I don’t see a frost in our future, those readings are too cold for things like basil and peppers.   Both days this weekend will give you plenty of time to get the yard in great shape.  If you have planted grass you’ll have to keep it evenly moist by hand on Sunday as much of the upcoming week appears dry.

If you’re heading south to Fenway…

The Houston Astros are in Boston with day games tomorrow and Sunday. I don’t see any weather issues,  however showers Friday evening could impact the game.

If you’re running errands…

No weather issues during the day this weekend.  Any showers Saturday will hold off until later afternoon, but are even more likely after sunset.  This band of rain is moving quickly and will leave us dry and cooler for Sunday.
