Lauren Guppy scored five runs as the visiting Cougars downed the Dragons in KVAC play on Friday.

Guppy doubled and singled, while Ashly Wiles reached base four teams with two singles, a double and a walk. Sam Ellis chipped in two hits, while Kayleigh Fontaine earned the mound win on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts.

Brunswick (1-10) had a tough game defensively, committing 11 errors.

“ We have had some injuries and we have had to move fielders around,” commented Brunswick coach Hugh Dwyer, whose Dragons hosts Camden Hills today at 4 p.m. “Our defensive play is attributed to our mindset not our ability.”

In the third innings, Brunswick’s Brooke Barter reached on a Mt. Blue error and later scored on an Allie Eck sacrifice fly.

Ketty Stinson and Margaret Dickinson each doubled in the loss.

“We can’t hide the fact that this is an extremely disappointing loss given the nature of our performance in the field today,” said Dwyer. “ These girls work hard every day to improve their game and to honor their community, I can’t be disappointed in their effort or character. We may be down, but we won’t stay down.”
