SARASOTA, Fla. — Joseph Rene Albert Lariviere, 83, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his children.

Born in Westbrook on May 20,1932, he was one of nine children born to Eva (Boucher) and Donat Lariviere. He was preceded in death by Pauline, his devoted wife of 62 years.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force, and was a Korean War-era veteran who was honorably discharged.

Joseph was a devoted husband and father of five children. He was a self-made man who had many successful business ventures during his lifetime, which included Rivers Music Corp., Rivers Computer Rental & Repair and several other entrepreneurial endeavors.

He was a very talented guitar player, and entertained many throughout his lifetime. He took great pleasure in helping others; a few of his favorite charities included Smile Train, Tidewell Hospice, All Faiths Food Bank and the Salvation Army.

He is survived by: two daughters, Judy Lariviere and Nancy Carello and her husband Michael of Venice, Florida; three sons, Normand and his wife Denise of Bristol, Connecticut, Roland and his wife Sally, and Gary of Harwinton, Connecticut; six grandchildren, Shana, Benjamin, Chelsea, Samuel, Thomas and Marney; one great-grandson, Brycen; two brothers, Roger and Robert; one sister, Irene Madore; three brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

A full military memorial service was held on April 26 at Sarasota National Cemetery, Florida, where he was laid to rest with this beloved wife, Pauline. Together Forever.
