SACO — Ben Lambert, Luke Chessie and Evan Balzano guided the hosting Thornton Academy baseball team to a 5-4 win over Portland Tuesday afternoon in nine innings.

With two men on in the ninth, Balzano hit the game-winning single to secure the victory.

Lambert got the start for TA, pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing four runs on 10 hits and striking out seven batters. Chessie finished the game, not allowing a hit in relief.

Lambert and Adam Gibbons led TA with three hits while Balzano added two on the day.

Cape Elizabeth 18, Wells 5

Cape Elizabeth earned a big road win against Wells Tuesday afternoon.

Despite the loss, Wells had some solid performances. Evan Whitten led the Warriors with three goals while Ethan Marsh scored twice.

Girls Lacrosse

Kennebunk 18, Freeport 1

Six different Rams scored at-least two goals as they improved to 7-0 on the season.

Kennebunk was led by Jenny Bush with three goals and three assists and Kyra Schwartzman with four assists and two goals.

The Rams would also get three goals apiece from Katy Ross, Olivia Sandford and Carly Sandler, who also added two assists.

Gabby Fogg added two goals and Briannagh Beaudette scored her first career varsity goal in the win.

Bella Kudas stopped one shot and Mallory Burchill finished with three saves for the Rams, who visit Lake Region on Thursday.

Cape Elizabeth 14, Wells 4

Hosting Cape Elizabeth blew past Wells Tuesday afternoon thanks to solid offense and defense.

Wells received goals from Laney O’Brien, Bailey Michaud Nolan, Alyssa Loukola and Aimley Michaud Nolan.

Boys Tennis

Gorham 5, Sanford 0

Visiting Gorham swept Sanford Tuesday afternoon.

Patrick Morris fell in his singles match 6-0, 6-1, while both Quinn Severs and Mitch Duncan fell 6-0, 6-0.

David Winchell and Sam Whitten fell in their doubles match 6-0, 6-0 while Travis Dionne and Riley Legere also fell 6-0, 6-0.
