“Don Juan DeMarco,” the 1994 comedy-drama starring Johnny Depp, is the next film in the Monday Matinee series at Merrill Memorial Library, 215 Main St., screening Monday, May 23, at 1 p.m. It also features Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway.

The new Merrill Film Society, an informal gathering to view great works of cinema, screens “The Seventh Seal” (1957) on Wednesday, May 25. The viewing will be at Lewis Hall, on Merrill Memorial Library’s third floor, starting at 7 p.m.

Candidates set

for June 14 election

School Committee member Bob Watterson is not seeking re-election in the June 14 election. Nomination papers were due back to Town Hall on April 29. Watterson said he’s not seeking re-election because of time constraints related to opening a new business.

There are two candidates for two Town Council seats and three candidates for two School Committee seats.

Town Councilors Pat Thompson and Rob Waeldner are seeking re-election, as is School Committee member Leah Guay. Joan Dollarhite and Ann Fleming are also running for School Committee.

On the Water District Board of Trustees, Stephen Gorden didn’t file for re-election and no one else took out papers. Gorden couldn’t be reached for comment.

All offices have three-year terms.

Free tech assistance and coffee are available on Tuesdays from 2-3:30 p.m., through the end of May, at Merrill Memorial Library. Anyone having trouble navigating a new device, wanting to learn how to utilize all your phone’s feature, needing a hand downloading e-books, etc., can bring questions and your smart phone, e-reader, tablet, or laptop for help learning how to do more with your technology.

to make a splash

The Maine Island Trail Association is celebrating the start of the 28th season of the Maine Island Trail with a boating season kickoff party, called Splash! on Thursday, May 19, from 6-9 p.m., at East Coast Yacht Sales in Yarmouth. The party will feature a silent auction, music, food, camaraderie, adventure, and the chance to learn about Maine Island Trail Association’s work taking care of and preserving access to wild islands on the coast of Maine.

Red-Eyed Fox, featuring Jake Hoffman of Tumbling Bones and Tyler Lienhardt of Tricky Britches, will perform bluegrass music. Live demonstrations of the Maine Island Trail mobile app, by local developer Chimani, will teach attendees how to use the organization’s new technology.??The silent auction includes experiential opportunities, boating accessories and apparel, outdoor gear and unique trail-related adventures. All proceeds from the auction will go toward the group’s mission of sustainable island recreation and active coastal stewardship.

Food will be provided by Royal River Grillhouse of Yarmouth. Rising Tide Brewing Co.’s will be on hand to provide beers. Members of the Royal River Conservation Trust will also be attending. More details and online ticket sales are available at www.mita.org/splash.
