A Recreational Boating Safety Open House will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the U.S. Coast Guard station in South Portland.

The event will be hosted by the Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and other local emergency responders as part of National Safe Boating Week, which runs through Friday, May 27.

The Open House will promote safe and responsible recreation at sea with the following events: a Coast Guard helicopter rescue swimmer demonstration; tours of rescue boats and aids-to-navigation cutters; kayak rescue demonstrations, hand -held flare demonstrations; Mariner Radio Activated Sound Signal (MRASS) demonstrations; and free vessel safety checks.
