STANDISH — Thornton Academy won its boys track and field tri-meet over Biddeford and Bonny Eagle Wednesday afternoon. TA finished in first with 82 points, while Biddeford took second with 72, and Bonny Eagle third with 46.

TA’s Edwin Kayumba took home first in the 100-meter dash, while teammate Keegan Fowler finished first in the 200.

Daniel Marsh later won the 400 for TA, while Ben Plante won the 3,200.

TA’s Tanner McFarren won the long jump, while teammate Alex Arnold placed first in the triple jump. Devan Ruel was TA’s final first place-winner, taking home first in the javelin throw.

As a team, TA also finished first in the 400 and 1,600 relays.

Biddeford also had a handful of first-place winners.

Dwayne Dyer placed first in the both the 800 and 1,600, while Matt Brady finished first in the shot put and the discus. Jacob Bilsky also took home first in the 1,600 race walk.

Arnold finished second for TA in both the 100 and long jump, and Marsh was second in the 200.

TA’s Jacob O’Berry placed second in the 400, while teammate Jackson Pierce took second in the 3,200. Jason Montano also placed second in the shot put for TA. Thomas Palmer finished second in the pole vault for TA.

Trevor Jordan placed second in the 1,600 for Biddeford, while Scott Spellman finished second in the 110 hurdles. John DelPrete later finished second in the 300 hurdles for the Tigers.

Biddeford’s Kyle Norton took home second place in the high jump and Jackson Oloya was second in the triple jump. Lucas Rhoy later finished second in the discus and javelin. Joshua Bilsky rounded out Biddeford’s second place winners in the race walk.

TA’s third-place finishers were Kayumba in the 200 and Michael Underwood in the 400. Palmer also finished third in the 300 hurdles, while Lucas Judice was third in the pole vault.

McFarren placed third in the triple jump, while Connor Hayward placed third in the discuss.

Biddeford’s third-place finishers were Jordan Cook in the 1,600, Josh Dutremble in the high jump and Codie Ramos in the javelin.

Baseball

OOB 13, Waynflete 0 (5 innings)

The Seagulls failed to score in the first inning, but would rack up 13 runs over the next four to secure the road win.

Old Orchard Beach, which improved to 8-4 on the season, would get two hits from Thomas Fregeau, who added two runs scored and one RBI.

Kyle Allen, Cody Blanchette and Dustin Brown all had doubles for the Seagulls, who would get singles from Dylan Creswell, Evan O’Donnell, Jacob Maloney, Joe McCullum and Logan Melnick.

Melnick allowed just two hits over three innings of work to pick up the win, while Brown and Mason Beaudoin pitched the final two innings. The OOB trio allowed four total hits and struck out five.

Wells 3, Cape Elizabeth 2

Charlie Bell led the Warriors past Cape Elizabeth Wednesday afternoon.

Bell impressed on the mound, pitching a complete game and allowing no earned runs, while also adding an RBI single at the plate in the third inning.

Jordan Cluff hit a two-run single in the fourth inning which would also be the game-winner. Liam Bell and Nick Cousins also added two hits each in the win.

The Warriors improved to 7-4 on the season.

Yarmouth 5, Kennebunk 4

Despite erasing a four-run deficit, the Rams fell to Yarmouth Wednesday afternoon on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

Yarmouth opened the game with a big first inning, scoring four runs and taking a fast 4-0 lead. Kennebunk pitcher Justin Wiggins settled down and did not allow another run.

The Rams battled back in the fourth, tying the score at 4-4 on two-run singles from Wiggins and Cole Hoffman.

The Rams drop to 5-7 on the year.

Softball

Portland 2, Biddeford 0

The visiting Biddeford softball squad was shut out by Portland Wednesday.

Although the Tigers’ bats never came to life, Kirsten Lebreux shined in the circle for Biddeford.

In six innings of work, Lebreux only allowed two runs on six hits while striking out six.

Portland scored a run in the first, then later a run in the fifth when Morgan Boyle stole home.

Wells 12, OOB 0 (5 innings)

Wells blew past OOB at home Wednesday afternoon in five innings, scoring in each inning. Casi Haye led the Warriors at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Olivia Durfee also had three hits and three RBIs.

Kris Kenyon got the win in the circle for Wells, pitching all five innings while recording 15 strikeouts. Kenyon only allowed two hits on the day.

Boys Tennis

Freeport 3, Kennebunk 2

The Kennebunk boys got two singles wins, but that would be it as Freeport picked up the road win.

Dan Behrans and Mason Burke would secure wins for the Rams.

Kennebunk’s Caleb Eickmann dropped a hard-fought first singles match in three sets.

Westbrook 4, Massabesic 1

The host Mustangs earned a doubles win, but Westbrook would take the rest on Wednesday.

Massabesic’s lone win came from the team of Alex Herrick and Tommaso Mobiglia in second doubles.

Girls Tennis

Thornton Academy 5, Cheverus 0

Thornton Academy swept visiting Cheverus Wednesday afternoon.

Eva Sachs won her singles match 6-1, 6-0, while Grace Pickering won 6-1, 6-2. Andrea Kucharova also won her singles match 7-6, 6-2.

TA’s first doubles pair of Pilar Salcedo and Claudia de la Hoz Garcia won 6-3, 6-1, while Emma Nassif and Brianna Paul won 6-4, 6-1.

Falmouth 17, Wells 5

Falmouth pushed past visiting Wells Wednesday afternoon.

Ethan Marsh scored twice for the Warriors, while Chad Fitzpatrick and Evan Whitten added one apiece.
