Maine Connections Academy, the state’s first virtual public charter school, has selected Julianna Saucier, a high-school junior from Sanford, as its May 2016 STAR student.
Since joining MCA in August, 2015, Saucier has excelled in a challenging honors curriculum, maintaining consistently high grades in spite of ongoing medical issues, school officials said in a news release. Although her English teacher praises her writing skills, Saucier’s favorite class is precalculus, a college-level course, said school officials.
To relax, Saucier enjoys riding horses, and leases a thoroughbred gelding named Danny at a local show barn. On the days she completes her schoolwork early, she heads to the barn to visit a friend and ride Danny.
Saucier plans on pursuing a career as a chiropractor due to the health benefits she has experienced personally as a patient.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
