BIDDEFORD — A drug raid conducted by Biddeford Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of three Biddeford residents. Two were charged with trafficking of crack cocaine, and one with possession of the drug.

Police arrested Sophea Va, 27, Christopher Merritt, 38, and Brian Chandler, 41, all of Biddeford, in the raid, conducted at 124 Alfred St.

Biddeford Chief of Police Roger Beaupre confirmed on Wednesday that the raid took place after a warrant had been put out for Va’s arrest on charges of probation revocation in connection to previous convictions of trafficking crack cocaine.

Beaupre said Va left the house – which police had put under surveillance – shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Police then followed Va’s car into Saco, where he was pulled over and taken into custody.

After Va’s arrest, police and MDEA searched the house, where Merritt was taken into custody on an active warrant for probation revocation, also for crack cocaine trafficking.

Beaupre said no drugs were found in the house, although Chandler was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of crack cocaine.

Chandler was processed and released from the Biddeford Police Department on bail. Va and Merritt were transported to York County Jail in Alfred, and are awaiting court hearings.
