BATH — Sheriff Joel Merry of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office has announced there will be an OUI saturation patrol located within Sagadahoc County during the Memorial Day holiday weekend May 27-30.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, alcohol impairment accounted for 44 of the 131 total fatalities in Maine during 2014. Alternately speeding violations accounted for another 39 of those 131 fatalities.

The extra patrol, which is part of a regional impaired driving enforcement program, will be conducted during the evening hours and is designed to help reduce the incidence of impaired driving and alcohol and drug fatalities. This safety detail is funded through a grant made possible by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
