The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday.

Meetings

Pownal selectmen and Durham selectmen will hold a joint meeting Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m., at the Durham Town Hall.

The Pownal Planning Board will hold its final hearing to inform residents on the ordinance amendments and proposal that will be presented for vote at town meeting June 20. The hearing is Wednesday, June 15, at 6 p.m., in Mallett Hall. Copies of the amendments and proposals are available at the town office and on the town website.

unusual yard sale

Fuego Diablo has scheduled its annual car boot/yard sale on Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m.-noon, at 52 Loring Lane. The sale follows the British custom of selling things from the trunk of your car in a field with lots of other folks. The cost is $10 to secure a spot on the lawn.

Pulled pork sandwiches, coffee and baked goods will be for sale. Several musicians from the MidCoast Boomer Band will be providing live music. Those interesting in selling should call Fuego Diablo at 408-3105 by June 7. Rain date is June 25.

College honors

Nazareth College, Rochester, N.Y., has named Brittney Shelton of Pownal to the dean’s list for the Ssring 2016 semester. Shelton is majoring in music therapy. A student’s grade point average must be at least 3.5 or above in order to be included on the dean’s list at Nazareth.

Katie Harlow of Pownal graduated from the University of New Hampshire during the commencement ceremony held Saturday, May 21, on the Durham, N.H., campus. She earned an AAS degree in Veterinary Technology with highest honors.

Church sets

supper schedule

First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9 in Pownal, will be having four church suppers this year: June 18, July 16, Aug. 20 and Sept. 17. There will be two sittings for each supper, at 5 and 6 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling Lois at 688-4433.

Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.

Men’s breakfast

First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a Men’s Breakfast the first Saturday of each month, at 7:30 a.m., at the church, open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

Church services

Prayer, Praise and Worship, with the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre, is held every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., at the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road. For more information, call St. Pierre at 837-0682 or Kim Drew, church secretary, at 837-2938.

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m., led by the Rev. Raymond St. Pierre. Sunday School for children and adults begins at 10:30 a.m. St. Pierre’s hours are Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon and Thursdays by appointment only at 688-4938. The First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9, worship service is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages is 11 a.m.-noon. Bible Study meets at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Choir has started and anyone wishing to join is welcome to come to rehearsals on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information, call the Rev.
