BOWDOIN — Ludger Jeane “Pous” Tremblay, 89, resident of Bowdoin died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Ludger was born on November 4, 1926, in Coventry, VT, the son of Jean J. and Maria (Bolduc) Tremblay. He attended St. John’s Catholic School in Brunswick. On May 24, 1948, Ludger married Evelyn M. Small at St. John Church in Brunswick and shared 68 years of marriage with her. Together they raised two children, Ludger Jr. and Nancy.

Ludger loved being around people and worked until he was 78 years old. At a young age, Ludger started a business where he shined shoes at the train station. Later he painted white walls on cars to make money. By the time Ludger was a teen, he was working in the restaurant business with his father. From 1956-1982, Ludger owned and operated the Pizza King on Maine Street in Brunswick as well as opened several Pizza King restaurants in various locations.

Ludger retired and could not stand being away from the public. He returned to work as a salesman and eventually used car manager at Goodwin’s Chevrolet. During this stint, Ludger was recognized as salesman of the year. He also worked at Cliff ’s Backyard and Norm’s Used Cars.

When Ludger was not working, he enjoyed traveling with his family. Ludger particularly loved driving his Motorhome to various sites throughout the country and Canada. He also loved cars; especially Thunderbirds.

Ludger is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn Tremblay of Bowdoin; his son Ludger Jr. and wife Clarinda of Topsham; his daughter Nancy of Lewiston; his sister Claire Michaud of Brunswick; his granddaughter Celista Lindall of Damariscotta; his granddaughter Nicole Melcher of Auburn; his grandson Ludger III of Topsham; his grandson Nicholas Dumont of Lewiston and 9 great-grandchildren. Ludger was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Joe, Fern and Bobby Tremblay; and three sisters, Cecile Morency, Noela Bouchard and Terry Mailly.

The family of Ludger would like to thank Evelyn’s sisters, Faye, Alberta, and Patty and brother Harold for transporting her back and forth to d’Youville Pavilion over the last four and a half years. We wish to convey our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff on 3 East at d’Youville Pavilion for their extraordinary care and kindness while caring for Ludger. Lastly, we wish to thank the staff at Androscoggin Healthcare and Hospice for the care and compassion given to Ludger during his stay.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 39 Pleasant Street, Brunswick.
