A 60-room Best Western Plus hotel is planned for Route 2 in Rumford.

Pennacook Falls Investments Ltd., a group of local investors, announced Thursday that it received approval from Best Western International to build the hotel across from the Rumford Information Center. Plans call for a conference center and year-round pool.

“This project will fill the need for additional local lodging options for business and leisure travelers,” said Tony L. Carter, president of Pennacook Falls Investment. “But the larger goal of Pennacook Falls Investments is to bring jobs, and to build momentum toward revitalizing historic Rumford and the local area. We want to encourage tourists to discover the beauty of the foothills of the Western Maine mountains.”

The company has been working with Casalinova Development Group LLC and Building Solutions LLC, both located in western Maine. At a press conference announcing the project, developers said they hoped to break ground later this year and have the hotel ready by fall of 2017.
