LAS VEGAS — Francois X. Levesque, 89, of Las Vegas, formerly of Alfred, died Dec. 21, 2015, in the Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas.

He was born in Quebec, Canada, on July 7, 1926, to Joseph and Emelina (Paquette) Levesque.

Francois was educated in Quebec. He came to Biddeford in 1947 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country during World War II and the Korean War, and spent two years of his service overseas in Japan.

In 1952, he married the love of his life, Rachel A. Dutremble, in St. Joseph’s Church. They were married 43 years at the time of her death in 1996.

Francois worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Biddeford for 25 years, retiring in 1983. After living in Alfred for 26 years, he moved to Las Vegas to be closer to family.

Francois enjoyed nature and being outdoors. He loved to tend his tomato garden and watch the birds from the deck he built. He was excellent at completing the daily Jumble, and continued doing so through his final days.

He was preceded in death by: his wife and all 14 of his siblings.

He is survived by: Four sons, Steven R. Levesque of Lansing, Michigan, David B, Levesque of Jacksonville, Florida, Marcel P. Levesque of Long Island, New York, and Francis R. Levesque and his wife Maura of Vienna, Virginia; one daughter, Kathy M. Clemens and her husband Samuel of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren, Philippe, Elizabeth, Michael, Christopher, Bridget, Margot, Taylor and Chad; and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, immediately followed at 10:30 a.m. by a funeral service at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.

Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
