The Trojans gave up a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, but were able to bounce back with two runs in the ninth to get the win.
TA would take a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, but Scarborough rallied with a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras. Trojans’ centerfielder Zach Ham nearly ended the game with an incredible catch on the play, but the ball would find the ground.
Ben Steva gave the Trojans the lead with a two-run double, which scored Evan Balzano and Brogan Searle-Belanger, in the top of the ninth.
Scarborough would score one run in the bottom of the ninth, but Luke Chessie would slam the door for TA.
Searle-Belanger, Ben Lambert and Chessie would share the pitching duties for TA.
TA, which outhit Scarborough 13-9, was led by Searle-Belanger, Balzano, Lambert and Chase Wescott with multi-hit performances.
South Portland 6, Thornton Academy 1
The Trojans were held to just three hits in a loss to South Portland.
Ben Conti and Griffin Kelley combined for the three-hitter for South Portland, which got two triples and two runs scored from Sam Troiano.
TA scored its lone run when Josh LePauloue reached on a dropped third strike and scored on a hit from Wescott.
Andrew Coleman, Chessie, Brady Lambert and Balzano took the mound for the Trojans.
The Trojans will open the Class A South playoffs on Thursday when they host the winner of No. 12 Kennebunk and No. 5 Portland, who will square off tonight at Hadlock Field.
