PORTLAND
John Means allowed one earned run over seven innings and the Bowie Baysox (25-34) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (19-39), 4-1 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.
Means (1-2) earned his first career Double-A win in his third start, allowing just four hits while walking none and striking out one.
Bowie got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Tucker Nathans off of Teddy Stankiewicz. Chance Sisco delivered another two-out RBI hit with a two run single in the fifth on Stankiewicz to extend the Bowie lead to 3-0.
Stankiewicz allowed four runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out two. The Sea Dogs bullpen provided a bright spot, with Luis Ysla striking out five in 2 2/3 hitless innings and Chandler Shepherd working a perfect ninth.
Nate Freiman hit a solo homer over the Maine Monster in the seventh inning to account for the lone Sea Dogs run.
The series concludes tonight, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
