High winds with gusts up to 45 mph knocked down trees, downed utility poles and power lines and closed roads Thursday in Maine.

Gusting winds knocked over a tree that snapped a utility pole on Route 1 in Saco around lunchtime, Saco police said.

The pole took down other utility lines and hit a car, closing the road for about two hours between King and Beach streets, dispatchers said. There were no injuries, and the road was reopened around 2 p.m.

Downed lines also briefly shut down Palmer Avenue along the coast in Saco about 12:35 p.m., dispatchers said.

A large tree branch damaged police cars, an animal control truck and a marine patrol truck parked outside the Brunswick police station Thursday afternoon. Dispatchers didn’t have an estimate of the cost of the damage, but the department gave an estimate of $10,000 to $15,000 to WGME-TV.

Central Maine Power Co. reported at 11:45 p.m. that 487 customers remained without power, 106 in York County and 381 in Oxford County.

The National Weather Service in Gray reported wind gusts ranging from 32 mph in Ogunquit to 46 mph in Bethel and 45 mph at Cape Neddick in York. A 40 mph gust was recorded at the Portland International Jetport at 1 p.m.

“This is one of the windier days we’ve had this spring and summer,” said meteorologist Stacie Hanes.
