Tim Giddinge, longtime chairman of the Pownal Board of Selectmen, easily won re-election to his seat on the board during municipal elections Tuesday.
Giddinge, in his 10th year on the board and his seventh as chairman, defeated Heidi Curry, 117-60. Curry, who owns William Allen Farm wedding and special events center in town, was seeking political office for the first time. She once served as president of Impact, the fundraising arm of the Parents Teachers Asssociation at Pownal Elementary School.
Giddinge, 52, said prior to the election that he ran again in part because he wants to see the town through its ongoing property revaluation. He said that the town is in “pretty good shape,” with property tax levels similar to surrounding communities.
“The problem is there’s not enough business to share the burden with homeowners,” he said. “The challenge is to bring in more business, yet not change the town’s rural character.”
Pownal’s town meeting is Monday, June 20.
In uncontested races, Naomi Ledbetter remained on the Regional School Unit 5 Board of Directors with 164 votes. Craig Vosmus remains a cemetery commissioner with 179 votes.
In a Republican primary for state representative, Ande Allen Smith received 57 votes, Mark Holbrook 15.
In a Cumberland County Democratic primary for Register of Probate, Jessica Joseph got 29 votes, Nadeen Daniels 15.
