PORTLAND
The Portland Sea Dogs (22- 41) scored two unearned runs in the 10th inning and held on for a 5-4 Eastern League win over the Bowie Baysox (27-37) on Tuesday night in the series opener at Prince George’s Stadium.
Tied at three in the 10th, Portland scored two runs off losing pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis (1-2). With one out, Rainel Rosario reached on a throwing error by shortstop Adrian Marin. On the same play, Bowie first baseman Joey Terdoslavich committed a throwing error at third base, enabling the go-ahead run to score. Wendell Rijo added a two-out, pinch-hit RBI single.
Austin Maddox earned his first Double-A win, working two scoreless frames with a walk and three strikeouts.
Chandler Shepherd entered the game with the bases-loaded and one out in the 10th inning. Jeff Kemp drew a walk, ending a streak of 17 Bowie batters in a row retired. The righty settled down and fanned Glynn Davis and retired Julio Borbon to earn his fifth save of the year.
The Sea Dogs took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning on Andrew Benintendi’s two-run homer. Benintendi finished 2-for-4 with a walk. Bowie took a 3-2 lead in its half of the sixth on Henry Urruita’s three-run homer off Teddy Stankiewicz, who went six innings on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
