BOWIE, Md.
The Bowie BaySox (28-37) received two homers from Jeff Kemp and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (22-42), 7-2, Wednesday night at Prince George’s Stadium.
The Eastern League series is now tied at one game apiece, with the final game tonight at 6:35 p.m.
Bowie scored six runs off Kevin McAvoy in just 2 2/3 innings on eight hits. Kemp knocked McAvoy out of the game with a two-run homer in the third, making it 6-0.
Brandon Barker beat McAvoy for the second time in six days, hurling 7 2/3 innings on seven hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts.
Portland scored two runs in the fifth inning. Cody Decker, who made his debut in the Red Sox system, smacked a solo homer to left field. Tzu-Wei Lin added a run-scoring single.
Kemp’s second homer was a solo-shot in the eighth off Jake Drehoff for the game’s final run. Bowie’s Garabez Rosa finished 3-for-5 and Henry Urruita had two hits and an RBI.
Portland’s Tyler Grover fired 3 1/3 scoreless relief on three hits and a strikeout. Drehoff worked two innings on two hits and one run.
