KENNEBUNK — Msgt. Raymond H. Emmons, Ret., 84, of Ruffin, South Carolina, and formerly of Kennebunk, died peacefully at MUSC Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, after suffering a stroke.

He was born in North Kennebunkport, a son of Clarence R. and Grace A. Woods Emmons, on March 20, 1932. He graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1950.

Ray joined the Air Force soon after graduation, and remained in the service for 20 years, making it a career. He often expressed great joy of his time in the Air Force and the many friends he made in that service. When visiting with family, he would regale them with lots of stories and happy memories of his years in the Air Force.

He also worked with his brother, Richard, at a gas company on Hilton Head Island for many years, staying on after his brother moved to Michigan. He later retired from the gas company and moved to Ruffin.

Raymond was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, Stephen Emmons: four brothers, Rodney, Ralph, Richard and Robert Emmons; and five sisters, Elsie Storrs, Edith Wilson, Virginia Mahar, Ruth Cluff and Lucy Emmons.

Surviving are his wife of seven years, Elberta Newman Emmons; two sons, Michael and Bruce Emmons; two daughters, Ellen Bowden and Glenda Burg; one sister, Lt. Col. Mary A. Emmons, Ret.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Raymond is going to be sadly missed by family and friends.
