BRUNSWICK

Seacoast United Maine will again present the largest soccer tournament in Maine, Father’s Day weekend in Brunswick, with a record 260 teams attending from all six New England States, New York, Maryland and Canada.

In all, 33 fields will be in play at the tournament, with 14 fields as the host site at Bowdoin College. Surrounding fields in Brunswick, Topsham, Freeport, North Yarmouth Academy and Bath will be featured, including new host sites at Hyde School and McMann turf fields.

The tournament will bring in over 10,000 visitors, including players, coaches, parents and referees, generating close to a million dollars in local revenue.

Long time Tournament Director Jim Wade commented, “This is the largest number of teams we have ever had, with a surge in numbers of many large clubs, such as Far Post Vermont, GPS Maine, River City from the Bangor Area, Soccer New Brunswick, just to name a few. We even have a U-10 boys team, the Washington Cosmos coming from Maryland, and my favorite team name coming from Watertown Mass, the Watertown U-11 Girls Irish Fluffy Cheetahs. We can’t wait to meet them.”

Cross Insurance is the main sponsor for the Coastal Summer Challenge, which features both premier and town brackets from U-8 through U-18 girls and boys. Friday night games will be featured for the first time, and the tournament also showcases the Seacoast WPSL women’s team playing Seacoast New Hampshire at 4:30 p.m. at Bowdoin, and the men’s NPSL team will play at 4 p.m. Sunday against Lowell United FC.
