SACO — Mary Edna Beal Houy, 91, of Saco, died Saturday, June 25, 2016.

She was born in Far Rockaway, New York, on Oct. 27, 1924, the daughter of Richard and Mary Beal, both now deceased.

Mary was a graduate of Baldwin High School in New York. She received her registered nurse degree at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica, Long Island, New York.

She married L. Joseph Houy in Baldwin, New York, at St. Christopher’s Church in 1945. The couple moved to Scarborough in 1958.

Mary worked at Maine Medical Center and Seaside Nursing Home before retiring in 1988. After retiring, Mary and Joseph enjoyed 14 years of spending their summers in Maine and winters in Florida. The couple decided to reside in Maine permanently in 2002 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Joseph; a son, Joseph; a daughter, Marcella; a sister, Patricia Frick; and a brother, Richard Beal.

Mary is survived by: a son, John Houy of Lyman and his wife Linda; a daughter, Trish Raymond of North Waterboro and husband Jonathan; six grandchildren, Amanda, Carter, Amy and Allison Raymond, Celina Turner, and Michelle Thibodeau; and four greatgrandchildren.

There are no visiting hours scheduled. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Good Shepherd Parish, 271 Main St., Saco. Interment will immediately follow at Scarborough Memorial Cemetery on Old Blue Point Road in Scarborough.
