A house in Cumberland was damaged Monday night after personal fireworks set a tree on fire.
The incident happened after 9 p.m. in Cumberland’s Crossing Brook neighborhood when a tube containing fireworks tipped over, resulting in a projectile being launched into a tree. The tree was quickly engulfed in flames, according to a post and a video on the Cumberland Police Department’s Facebook page.
The tree fire melted some siding on a nearby house before crews from Cumberland Fire Department were able to extinguish the flames. There were no injuries reported.
“This serves as a good reminder to all that if you are going to set off fireworks, make sure you are doing it in a safe area and are aware of your surroundings,” read the post on the Cumberland Police Department’s Facebook page. “It’s also a good idea to have a hose nearby in case of a fire.”
