WESTBROOK (AP) — Police in Westbrook say concerns over a large, loose snake shouldn’t keep people away from attending an outdoor summer concert series.

The 10-foot-long snake was seen eating a beaver in Westbrook a week ago before it swam across the Presumpscot River and disappeared. It has not been seen for a few days.

WMTW-TV reports that residents should feel safe going to the Riverbank Park Summer Concert Series in Westbrook, and need only be aware of their surroundings.

The first concert in the free series was held on Wednesday night. The next is July 13.

Police say they are still looking for the snake. The reptile has developed a following on social media, where fans call it “Wessie” and the “Presumpscot Python.”
