Alex Larson ripped a walk-off two-run single in the seventh inning to lift Highland Green to a 4-3 American Legion Zone 2 baseball win on Saturday over Gardiner at Mt. Ararat High School.
Highland Green swept the doubleheader, capturing the opener, 11-7.
Larson, celebrating his birthday, pitched six solid innings in the nightcap on seven strikeouts, one walk and three runs (one earned). He had two hits, including a bases-loaded single to left-center field to secure the come-from-behind victory, giving Highland Green a 6-8 record.
In the seventh, Kaileb Hawkes singled and Andrew Kapocius dropped a bunt for a single to open the frame. A sacrifice bunt by Hunter Lohr and a walk to Cam Cox loaded the bases, setting up Larson.
Jonah Martin and Sam Hartford had two hits for Gardiner (8-6).
In the opener, Highland Green scored runs in five out of its six turns at the plate. Cox tripled, Hawkes doubled in a pair of runs, and Elliot Bowie, Harper Moutal and Lohr each singled.
Garrett Moody and Hawkes combined on the mound for eight hits, four walks and four strikeouts.
Eli Fish singled twice for Gardiner, while Martin doubled and Ryan Kelley tripled.
Highland Green takes on Rogers Post on Tuesday at Auburn Suburban Field. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.
