FREEPORT — Marc Louis Drapeau, R.Ph., M.D., passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on June 30, 2016 at his home. He was 47 years old. Marc was born August 16, 1968, the eldest child of Louis Drapeau and Jacqueline (Caron) Drapeau.

He grew up working in his father’s drugstore and after graduating NYA he went on to attend Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. After working as a pharmacist for a few years, he continued his studies at New York Medical College. During that time, Marc traveled to West Africa to volunteer in a medical program. While there he made time to climb Mount Kilimanjaro before returning home.

After graduation, Marc completed a residency program at New York Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center, specializing in Radiation Oncology. He had found his calling, and dedicated himself to the care of his patients. Marc was humble and compassionate in his work; his rapport with patients was unsurpassed, as was his ability to connect with people from many different backgrounds. He traveled extensively with his work, providing care to a diverse population throughout the country.

Marc’s passion did not stop with his work. He obtained his pilot’s license and he enjoyed the challenge and satisfaction of restorations. In his 20’s he restored the family’s 1958 mahogany motorboat. This interest developed further and included restoring or commissioning the restoration of vintage European sports cars & motorcycles, as well as antique audio equipment. He even had the opportunity to race one of his restored motorcycles in the famous Sanremo – Ospedaletti race in Sicily, Italy.

Marc was a voracious reader, owning an extensive collection of books on history, art, music, and science. He shared his passions with his family, such as boating in the family boat, taking relatives for joyrides in restored cars, and spending time with his cousin, George Drapeau and wife, Sheila. He was always ready for a ski trip and made time for family gatherings.
