OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Surge (20-15) defeated the visiting Sullivan Explorers (16-18) with a final score of 4-1on Sunday night at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.
The Explorers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, with first baseman Kevin Putkonen knocking an RBI double.
The Surge offense quickly tied the game, with first baseman Chris Allen knocking an RBI single in the first inning. Third baseman Luc Pomales would knock an RBI single in the 6th, giving the Surge a 2-1 lead.
The Surge would add to their lead in the eighth inning, with shortstop Dan Gagnon knocking a two-run single to put them ahead 4-1.
The Surge pitching staff continued to show why they’re the top-ranked in the league. Starter Christian Telemaco tossed for 7 2/3 innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out three and walking two. Left Handed reliever Eric Kline tossed for 2/3 innings, allowing no hits while striking out and walking one. Joshua Martinez picked up the save while allowing no hits.
The Surge outhit the Explorers 10-3, with Chris Allen and Luc Pomales leading the team with three each. Allen also picked up his 19th stolen base of the season.
