BRUNSWICK — Winfield H. Benner died peacefully on July 7, 2016, at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born April 30, 1922 in Rockland, Maine to Lloyd and Maryon Benner. He attended Brunswick schools and graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. During World War II he served in France and Germany while in The Army.

He married Lois Hatch of Freeport on November 19, 1950. They moved to Massachusetts for employment and to raise their family, returning to Brunswick in 1979 for their retirement. Winfield worked as a designer of electrical controls and on numerous educational projects creating teaching tools for young children. Win’s real passion was product design and improvement. He enjoyed being with his family, reading, walking, classical music and was a train enthusiast.

He was predeceased by his wife Lois and his sister Leatrice Winslow. He is survived by his son Douglas and wife Mary, son Winfield S. Benner and wife Julie, son Jonathan and wife Virginia. He had 4 grandchildren, Michelle Conrad and husband Claton, Eric Benner and wife Ashley, Alexandra Benner and Hannah Benner. He also had two great grand children, Sophia Benner and Weston Benner and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff at Dionne Commons in Brunswick for the loving care they provided in his latter years.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
