CUMBERLAND
Logan Thompson, coming off a made cut at last week’s Maine Amateur Championship at York Golf & Tennis Club, has the first-round lead in the Maine Junior Amateur at Val Halla Golf and Recreation Center.
Thompson shot a 1-over par 73, two shots ahead of Thomas Higgins and three shots up on Austin Legge. Thompson, Higgins and Legge will play in the final group today.
Also three shots back is Topsham’s Caleb Manuel, the 2015 Maine Junior Amateur 13-14 champion.
Zach Grant of Brunswick began today tied for 11th after an opening round 82, while Bowdoinham’s Cam Cox (87) and Lisbon’s Adam White (90) are in the field.
On the girls side, Bailey Plourde leads after firing a 75. She stands one shot ahead of Erin Holmes, who bogeyed the final four holes to finish at 76.
Also in the final group will be defending Junior Amateur champion Lauren Schonewolf, who fired a 78.
In the boys 13-14 flight, Armand Ouellette leads after an 83. He begins today’s round two shots ahead of Ryder Henry and Nick McGonagle.
And in the 12-and-under group, Parker Hilchey played his nine holes in 43, giving him a three-shot advantage over Alden Griffiths and Mia Hornberger.
